Masterplan for restoration of the southern Jordan River: Agriculture and Economy

ירדן דרומי - ראשית

The agricultural area in the south Jordan region covers approximately 6,000 Hectares and uses some 30 million cubic meters of water, in addition to the 33 million cubic meters of water used for the fish farming industry.

The South Jordan River restoration project promotes preserving values that are unique to the region and making the area accessible to the public. In order to achieve these goals, the drafters of the master plan and Zenovar worked together to propose rules and regulations for farming in the area, as well as rules for interactions between agriculture in the region and the lands adjacent to the farmlands that are within the scope of the plan.

The plan includes guidelines on various issues, including:

  • Pesticides and fertilizers
  • Enclosures
  • Agricultural and scenic roads
  • Treating pool water output
  • Mutual relations with nature reserves
  • Handling wildlife that enters agricultural lands
  • Developing control systems to improve agricultural production and use of vegetation protection materials
